Like many other retro-collectible toys, the legend of Scalextric cars had its early beginnings in the 1950s. The Scalextric was brought to Great Britain by its creator Freddie Francis and quickly became a huge hit. Originally, the cars were clockwork-powered, but electric motors were fitted to the cars by the end of the decade. Throughout the decades, the brand Scalextric has been owned by many companies including Minimodels Limited, Tri-ang and Rovex Limited. Today, the brand is owned by Hornby Hobbies Limited and can be found in any model shop.

Scalextric cars were first crafted from metal, and its tracks were fabricated from a rubber compound. With the use of plastic becoming popular in the 1960s, designers quickly realized the advantages of using plastic molded models. Using plastic as a lighter material added to the fast appeal of these popular car toys.

Creating authentic replications of racing cars and classis autos has always been the name of the game for designers of the Scalextric. Designers have always worked long and hard to make these cars look and feel as authentic as possible. From conception to creation, designers take photos and painstaking measurements to ensure the car is as real to life as the real model. With an amazing attention to detail, the interior and exterior of these collectible cars mirror its life-sized counterpart.

Throughout the years, the Scalextric brand has set records and captured imaginations around the world. In May 2009, Top Gear’s Mr. James May set the world’s record for the longest track using the brand’s products. This car fanatic recreated the famous Brookland’s racing circuit stretching an amazing 2.95 miles.

To ensure the brand’s continued success, designers implemented digital technology in 2005. Using technology to their advantage, designers have gotten more creative and produce all types of smart sets. The brand has also begun to release more film-related and TV products to keep in the mainstream. The brand has also created sets based on themed-video games. The most popular are My Sims Racing and Top Gear Powerlaps. These sets can be found at any model shop.

To keep up with modern technology, Scalextric cars are available with digital control. This allows the cars to race on either of the two slots at the same time. Thus, creating a more realistic race adventure.

I would start with the budget you have. You want to buy the best quality RC helicopter for your budget. I would go for a quality frame as this is the best protection for impacts which are going to happen at some point. Metal frames are obviously far strong than plastic so go with metal.

Controlling the flight of a remote control helicopter is far easier if the craft has built in gyroscope. Gyroscope technology is a device which makes measuring and maintaining orientation based on the principles of angular momentum. Not all helicopters have this feature so ensure the craft you go for does. It will make flying the craft far easier which means crashing will be less likely.

Check the controls of the helicopter. If it has four channel movements, up, down, forward and backwards, left and right, the more control you will have. Also a longer lasting battery will give you a much longer flying time. Some RC helicopters have a power saving feature which shuts off the power if not in use for a short amount of time.

Think about what you want to do with your helicopter. If you want to use it outdoors you will need a sturdier model. Every model will advice if they are suitable for outdoors or not. Use this as a guide and don’t try to use an indoor craft outside even if the weather looks suitable. Also many helicopters come in parts and you have to assemble them. This can be half the fun but if you’re a beginner you are best buying one that is already assembled.

Do some research first.. There are plenty of RC helicopter fan sites which have forums and reviews on particular models. Join some of these sites and ask questions to other hobbyists or enthusiasts. A little bit of initial research will save you a lot of stress and money later on down the line. There are a lot of cheaper models and junk really which will only lead to frustration and a hole in your pocket.

The Syma s032 is quite a sturdy helicopter which weighs about 1.7 kg. The Syma s107 is great for beginners and comes already assembled. It weighs just 34g but is very strong. The Syma s108 model comes with a cool flashing LED light which gives the craft a bit more authenticity. It is great for flying in low light areas and is very durable despite only weighing 60g.

Parents who want to help their children to stay healthy and learn how to exercise at a young age have many choices. Although the recommended amount of exercise kids should get daily varies with different medical professionals, they all agree that exercise and play are important; it helps them to grow up healthy and strong. Depending on the age and size of the children they can have fun learning how to use their muscles and develop coordination on different types of toys. They also use imagination and energy at play. There are different types of toys parents can buy to help them learn to enjoy the outdoors and discover exercise. These toys include tricycles, pedal cars and scooters. They provide a good foundation for exercise and fitness skills as children get older.

Tricycles

Tricycles are a new adventure for little kids. Also known as trikes, they are often a child’s first attempt at riding toys. Depending on the type of trike and manufacturer, children’s tricycles can be controlled by an adult push bar for balance and direction. To enhance the three-wheeled riding experience, some tricycles have a feature that prevents children from turning the steering wheel too far and tipping over. Some tricycles come with accessories to make riding more fun. A dumping bucket, basket, and handlebar bag are some features that help create a fun riding adventure.

Pedal Cars

Pedal vehicles come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. They help kids stay active both physically and with their imaginations. They can come in the form of pedal tractors, race cars, and other grown-up-looking vehicles. Depending on the style and size, pedal cars are appropriate for children about ages 4 to 9. Pedal cars are one way to develop arm, hand, foot and leg coordination and flexibility. Children discover the art of steering with their hands while they pedal with their feet to move forward, turn and change directions. The harder they pedal, the faster they go.

Scooters

Scooters are foot-to-floor action for children as young as 18 months to 4 years, although larger models accommodate older children. They can practice gripping handlebars, climbing and balance. Pushing off for power to go fast or slow helps build leg power, burn energy and increase stamina. Scooters also teach balance and confidence, a good foundation for more sophisticated toys as they grow up.

Collecta Utahceratops in Review

Horned dinosaur models are a bit like buses, you wait ages for one to come along and then several arrive altogether. This is certainly the way with Collecta and the new Collecta Utahceratops. Hot on the heels of the Kosmoceratops model release comes this new replica of a Ceratopsian. It is apt that these two dinosaurs should be reviewed in close proximity as both these dinosaurs were found in the same rock strata – Kaiparowits Formation in Utah (United States) and they co-existed all those years ago in the Late Cretaceous.

Utahceratops – Weighed as Much as an Elephant

Utahceratops, (yet another dinosaur named after the state of Utah), that’s at least two that we can recall, the other being Utahraptor, was bigger than Kosmoceratops. Scientists estimate that this horned dinosaur was around seven metres long when fully grown and it would have weighed as much as an Indian elephant. This dinosaur is known from at least six individual specimens, including two partial skulls which when combined provide palaeontologists with an almost complete skull to study. Like its contemporary, Kosmoceratops, this dinosaur was named and described in 2010.

Muted Colours on the Collecta Utahceratops

The model measures a fraction over twelve centimetres in length and the first impression is of the use of muted colours in the painting of the replica. It is noted that the actual model has a different finish than the original pre-release publicity photographs of the replica. In the earlier photographs the pattern on the extensive neck frill of Utahceratops was highlighted and brighter colours were used for the paint-work. The model has a more muted tone, and this makes it look more realistic.

The unusual facial horns are well depicted. The two larger horns, placed over the eyes point out sideways as revealed by the fossil evidence. A crest just below each horn and directly above the eye has been painted a contrasting red colour by the designers. The rest of the model is painted a light, sandy brown colour with a darker pigment used to mark out patterns on the large neck frill. Along the limbs and across the flanks the model makers have added one or two lighter stripes, a subtle use of colour on the replica dinosaur figure.

Exceptional Detail on the Dinosaur Model

As with all Collecta figures the detail is exceptional and we loved the finishing touch of the slight kink to the very end of the dinosaur’s tail, as if it was about to swish it. This makes this model look very realistic.

Utahceratops Proves Popular with War Game Enthusiasts

It is interesting to note that with the plethora of horned dinosaurs being added to the Collecta range, war gamers and other role game players have been keen to get hold of these replicas to add to their fantasy model collections. It seems that these beautiful, many horned dinosaurs are proving popular additions to the models used by fantasy war game hobbyists.

It is always a pleasure to see a new horned dinosaur figure and this new Collecta Utahceratops keeps the high standards of the Collecta dinosaur model range.

Family Fun with the Hornby Railroad Range. The first Hornby model train was made in 1920 by Frank Hornby. His tinplated train filled a gap that German toys had left behind. The original trains were run by clockwork, but by the 1930′s the switch to electric had occurred. As the way the trains were powered evolved, so did the details of the trains. The quality of the materials, the paint and finish received special attention in the manufacture of the trains.

The product line should appeal to most collectors. The current catalogue has a variety of accessories, track, buildings, rolling stock, and locomotives. The product range is affordable enough for beginning collectors to start to experience what it’s like being a model train collector. It may very well become a stepping stone to additional model train collections, while honoring one of the first toys created after World War II.

One particular product line that should be considered for the younger modeller is the Hornby Railroad Range. It is made for more wear and tear, so there is less detail than normal products made by the company. Others who might consider this line of locomotives are those who wish to add their own detail to their models. A train set in this model line would make an ideal gift for a child because it can provide educational value and enjoyment.

Whilst this range may not have the detail of the standard Hornby range, it must be pointed out that all the models have the same hook and bar type couplings that the rest of the hornby range enjoy, including the famous Thomas the Tank Engine.

Locomotives, like the Tornado, in the Railroad line are based off of actual trains. The Tornado first hit life-size tracks in 2008. The recently released Railroad model of the Tornado is a good value for younger modellers, while older modellers can look forward a high spec Tornado model in the future. The idea should be appealing to parents that they can own a highly detailed model of a train, while their child can play with a less detailed and more affordable model.

As well as the Tornado model, Hornby have introduced this year the A1 Class Flying Scotsman, a British Rail class 9f Cock O The North, a Great Western Railway County Class and a Southern Railways Schools Class. For diesel enthusiasts there is the Class 47 Northern Belle Pullman.

The Hornby Railroad Range has been extended this year (2012) by the addition of the following steam locos: A1 Class Flying Scotsman, a British Rail class 9f Cock O The North, a Great Western Railway County Class and a Southern Railways Schools Class. For diesel enthusiasts there is the Class 47 Northern Belle Pullman. A new wagon pack containing three mineral open wagons will be available from May 2012 onwards.

A lot of stress is being laid on healthy living these days. And that does not just include healthy eating, but also hygiene. Countries which are hot and humid require its people to stay fresh every time of the day and this is mostly done by wearing cotton or linen garments. As a fabric, linen is very smooth and cool to the touch. It is a natural fabric itself and is very light. The longer fibers of the flax plant are especially used for making linen fabric. It is a bit costly than cotton, but is known for the great comfort it gives to its wearer.

Linen is a bast fiber, that is, the inner walls of the stem of the plant is used for extracting the fibers. That is one of the main reasons of the fibers being so soft and hence it has forever been used for more delicate pieces of clothing like sleeping garments, undergarments and waist shirts. It is also mixed with hemp, wool or cotton for different other types of cloths used for clothing and in industries.

The use of linen goes back to hundreds and thousands of years. Countries like Greece and Egypt had known about the use of linen even before the birth of Christ. There is a tendency to group everything together as “linen” when we talk about domestic items like bed sheets, towels and table cloths. That is because the majority of these items are made from the linen fabric because of its light weight nature. It is easy to wash and it gets softer with each wash. It dries up easily and its weave and pattern does not allow stains to stick around for long. All these advantages speak for the popularity of linen.

Not just for clothing, but in industries like the bakery or in painting, linen is the preferred choice. Scientists are also working on a new kind of fiber- a combination of flax fibers and cotton for the improved variety of denim so that they become lighter and more comfortable for the wearers in the hotter countries. Linen is a strong fabric as well. Even after repeated washes, linen does not tear easily. It is well resistant to heat as well.

If you live in a hot and humid country too, then linen is the ideal fabric for you. Ditch your older garments for some new linen and feel the difference.

If you are a woman then you totally understand why it is such a blessing to be one. It is almost as if women are genetically predisposed to have all the beautiful things in the world. This is so because women are privy to one of the beautiful creations of man; women’s designer clothes. These are the best creations that the most talented and artistic minds on earth sit down to think up and create. They are like manmade jewels which never stop being produced. Every girl wishes to wear the latest expensive attire at least a few times in their life and they bring down heaven and earth to make sure it happens. This is not in vain as designer clothes are ethereal.

Designer clothes for women come in quite a wide range of styles and fashions. There are skirts, blouses, women shirts, coats, suits, lingerie, dresses and gowns. Any girl of any size can get a dress or anything else when it comes to designer clothing. The very affluent families have the advantage of being able to hire specific designers of their choice to make their clothes. These are usually very unique designs that no one has ever put together yet. Such clothes are used for red carpet events and other high profile occasions that only people of a certain stature are invited to. Women’s designer clothes made in this way almost never hit the market at all unless they are mimics.

This does not mean that there is nothing for the regular girl who earns a decent salary but nothing like the red carpet girls. There are many freelance designers who can be contracted at a much lower price but who also have remarkable ideas for clothing. One can decide to hire them out instead of the very costly ones. Another alternative yet is to buy ready made designer women’s clothes from stores. Most fashion houses reach out to consumers by having stores where they put out their clothes at affordable prices. These are still very fabulous and no less classy than the customized ones.

Women’s designer clothes are suitable for all kinds of occasions. You can buy a designer gown for your wedding day. If you are just going out to dinner or to a party with friends you can find the right dress to do so at a designer store or you can order for it online. Some online retail shops are extortionate, yet if you do a thorough search for the lowest prices it can be extremely beneficial for your fashion sense. Having the ability to interpret clothing to suit your personality and style could transform you into a style savvy – so put in the effort.

Nothing gets me more excited for the weekend than listening to “This Is How We Do It” by the legendary Montell Jordan, nothing that is except for designer fashion discounts! Minus listening to Montell Jordan, there is nothing more exciting than heading home for the weekend and scoring great deals on the brands you love. Just think about it, you have spent your entire week cooped in an office processing reports, talking to clients, running numbers, making awkward small talk with your boss, it is time to live it up and get that show stopper style going.

So it’s finally 5 o’clock on Friday, just like Montell, I’m going to show you ‘how we do it’ when it comes to designer fashion discounts. First things first, have your sites lined up. When trying to find the best deals online, you need to be able to quickly navigate through the best sites. If you spend too much time on one site, or simply don’t have a list of sites of where to go, then you’ll be left in the dust while the digital fashionistas push it to the limit. Some flash sale sites offer deals Friday nights, but most like to launch all their sales at a certain time each morning. So pick your sites and rest up, you’ve got a busy day ahead!

Now that you’ve got your sites lined up, browse around each one and see what brands are going on sale for the weekend. If you have managed to find some good online shopping spots, then most of them should have a general run down of upcoming sales, if not you better start over on choosing your sites. After you’ve gone through the sites you have selected, make a list of the sales you are most looking forward to. A lot of flash sale sites offer designer fashion discounts, but do not tell you exactly what will be offered the next day. For example they will tell you the brand, but not the specific shirt of jeans that they will be selling. The best items tend to go quickly, so if you know you will definitely want something from a particular brand be on the site with that sale when the gates open.

Now that you have your site and sales picked, get those fingers ready. Just like a grand opening or a liquidation sale, flash sale sites are not for the weak hearted. The moment a sale begins you have to be ready to click and add to cart. Most sites have a time limit on how long an item can be in your cart, so even if you have your ‘hands’ on it, it is not yours until check out is complete. See an item you might be interested in, snag it! See an item you cannot stand or for some reason the brand is not selling something that fits your style, move on!

Making bead jewelry can be a fun way of exploring your creative talent. You can work on it as a hobby, but you can also start a business out of it. To realize profit from your jewelry making business, one important thing is you should know how to price every piece of jewelry correctly. Prices should include the costs of your supplies, your time, overhead, and experience. Let us take for example, you are to create a necklace made of alloy beads. So you head on to your favorite bead shop and craft store to buy supplies such as beads, nymo thread, findings, etc. You also need to buy supplies like gift boxes, ribbons, tags, presentation cards, and bags.

After working on your necklace, you then calculate all the costs of materials that you used in making that piece of jewelry. The cost of the finished necklace will be different from the cost of your supplies. It is because you did not use up all the supplies that you bought in making the beaded necklace. So you calculate the cost of each alloy bead and how many were used; you do the same with all the other supplies (findings, clasps, nymo threads, etc) that were incorporated on the necklace.

After doing the above steps, you can start analyzing the bead strand costs. Maybe they are not easily marketable because of their high prices, or maybe some findings are worth doing them yourself so as not to make your piece of jewelry very costly. You try using anything that will make your project low-cost, for easy marketability. When you set up the price of your necklace, you add other criteria such as cost of shipping and delivery.

The ideal thing is to use up all the supplies that you bought to make the necklace. There are alloy beads and thread that are left over. This should be moved quickly. If this does not move, your money will be tied up not being used. Some of the supplies may get out of fashion or become obsolete. To have a healthy business, you should always try to reduce your inventory and maximize your product availability. Do not make it a practice to stock a box full of beads, using only one here and a couple there. Just think of the money that you spent buying all those beads.

You can consider making ethnic style bracelets and necklaces just to use all those supplies. It may take you long to sell them all, but at least, it is there ready to sell. Or you can consider making a set, instead of just one piece. For the necklace that you just made, you can create a matching bracelet and earrings. Your inventory will move quickly and if you sell quickly, your business will be on its right path. You can use up all the supplies that you bought and you can profit more effectively. Having a jewelry making business is both fun and financially satisfying.
